Description
Professor Andrew Lloyd AM is a highly regarded physician and research scientist, serving as the Director of the Fatigue Clinic at UNSW. With a distinguished career in infectious diseases, Prof Lloyd has made significant contributions to the understanding and management of chronic fatigue states, particularly those associated with infections and cancer. His expertise in this field has led to improvements in clinical practice for individuals suffering from long-term fatigue conditions, especially post-infective fatigue syndromes.
In addition to his clinical work, Prof Lloyd has played a pivotal role in advancing knowledge about hepatitis C infection. He is particularly recognized for his research on hepatitis C among prisoners, a population that faces a heightened risk of infection. His work in this area has helped shape healthcare strategies for managing hepatitis C in correctional settings.
Prof Lloyd also leads a cutting-edge research program at the Kirby Institute, where his laboratory focuses on the pathophysiology of hepatitis C infection, exploring how the virus affects the body’s biological systems. His research extends to understanding the biological underpinnings of the acute sickness response to infection and the genetic factors contributing to post-infective fatigue. His leadership continues to influence both clinical care and scientific understanding of infectious diseases and fatigue disorders.
