Description
The National Maternity Hospital (NMH) in Ireland is one of the country’s largest maternity hospitals, offering a wide range of specialized services in maternity, gynaecology, and neonatology. The hospital is renowned for its comprehensive care, including community midwifery, anaesthetics, fetal medicine, fertility treatments, and urogynaecology. It also provides expert services in maternal medicine, pathology, radiology, genetics, and perinatal mental health, making it a central healthcare provider for women and infants.
In 2022, the hospital provided care to over 6,800 women who gave birth, showcasing its capacity and expertise in managing both routine and complex pregnancies. The hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a national referral centre, admitting more than 1,100 infants annually. This unit specializes in caring for premature babies, sick infants, and complicated pregnancies, offering life-saving care through its highly trained medical staff and advanced medical equipment.
The hospital also operates the National Neonatal Transfer Service, which facilitates the safe transfer of critically ill infants to specialist centres.
